Hosting a get together for family and friends this Christmas? No matter what’s on the menu, a Christmas table deserves a special touch. So here at The Wooden Furniture Store, we’ve checked in with other interior bloggers and trawled Pinterest to bring you six trends to add glitz to your Christmas table.

Mix traditionally festive colours of red and white with cute country style touches for a Nordic look this Christmas. Start by dressing the table with a rustic runner and then add hand carved wooden reindeer and scarlet berried greenery. Introduce snow-white highlights with ceramic plates and make the table shimmer with a mix of pretty candle holders in a variety of sizes. Finally, bring it all together with Christmas amaryllis, pompom trimmed napkins and a country style heart name tag.

Celebrate the season with all the colours of the rainbow – the bright hues are perfect for adding Christmas cheer to the table. Layer up coloured runners and table mats, then add bold candle holders in a line down the centre of the table. You can have fun with Christmas tree baubles by creating a mini tree centre-piece (remove the ornament cap and hot glue the bauble onto a foam cone shape). Display individual guest names on a brightly coloured candy-cane in each setting as an alternative to a cracker.

Create a magical rustic winter wonderland by hanging foraged branches overhead as a stunning centrepiece to the room. Keep the tablecloth pure white, adding splashes of glittery stars, snowflakes and mirrored table mats to create a fairytale scene. Decorate each place setting with a mini mercury bottle filled with seasonal scented herbs and add light with glowing silvered votives and two larger pillar candles in silver containers.

Mix gold metallic and midnight jewel tones for a vintage glamour themed Christmas table setting. Lay a silky champagne runner down the table and add contrast with indigo glasses and gold rimmed flutes. Finish the look with gold place mats and coasters, then create a tangle of winter greenery and gold decorations along the centre of the table. A gold beaded napkin decoration adds an individual touch to each place setting and brings a touch of decadence to the whole look.

Create a classic traditional table that echoes the Christmas woodlands and the warm tones of a cosy log cabin. Classic reds and greens are easy to come by with fresh evergreens, red berries and seasonal pine cones. Dress the table in tartan and plain tablecloths for colour and texture. Add pine cone candles holders for a natural, homespun centrepiece and finally create a name holder from a pine cone and red ribbon.

Finally, a thought about your dining table….
Whichever table setting you choose, there’s quite often one larger problem at this time of year! How to host Christmas dinner for a large family when you can barely squeeze four people around your dining table? There is still time to order a dining table and matching chairs from us before Christmas (our last day for guaranteed delivery for all in-stock furniture is 5pm on the 17th December). We also recently wrote a blog piece about how to choose the perfect dining table. If a new table isn’t an option, then utilise your coffee table or outside garden table and embrace all the weird and wonderful chairs you have in your home, to help create the perfect dining space for your Christmas meal.
Make sure you use your Christmas table to show off your styling skills and create a magical place setting to really impress your guests. We’d love to see what Christmas table decoration ideas you will be using this festive season.
