Are you planning the bedroom of your dreams or is it time to give your boudoir a much-needed makeover? To celebrate the launch of our two new bedroom ranges, Burnell and Edgeworth, we thought we’d look at what makes a perfect bedroom. Read our 11 tips on how to turn your bedroom into an indulgent, cosy and serene sanctuary for the ultimate nights sleep.
Start with a natural colour palette

It is a well known fact that colour affects our brains and how we feel. For the bedroom, we’d recommend keeping the room as peaceful and relaxing as possible, as it’s a space where we spend a large portion of time and muted colour choices work well as calm and gentle tones make it easier to switch off. As a rule, bedrooms are a room that should really reflect us as individuals and should be far less about trends, visitors don’t tend to spend much time in our place of rest, bedrooms should be a place of sanctuary, somewhere we go at the end of a tough day to relax and unwind to get a good nights sleep and so should be selfishly embraced as our own personal space.
Think about the bed and bedding carefully

A bed is the most important element in any bedroom, but many of us have an uncomfortable bed. It’s worth investing in a good base and mattress to help you sleep well. Before buying your mattress, make sure you try out plenty to get the right one for you. The indulgent extras also make a big difference, so choose soft bedding too. For real comfort, you could splash out on Egyptian cotton with a minimum 400 thread count. Layering is key to a beautiful bed, it gives your space an instantly glamorous upgrade plus cushions and throws will add extra layers of interest to the room.
An essential piece of bedroom furniture
It might be the star, but your bed isn’t the only piece of furniture you need in your room. You also need an essential one – or even better, two – bedside cabinets, to frame for your bed. The Burnell range includes different size bedsides which come with two sets of handles, so that you can finish the furniture to suit your style.
Add an accent chair

It’s not an essential item, but adding an accent chair is the perfect way to put your empty corner to good use and diversify the space in your bedroom. As accent chair makes your bedroom somewhere cosy to hang out and provides the ideal spot to escape to for a quiet read.
Clear the clutter
Tripping over clothes and treading on your hairbrush isn’t the most relaxing way to begin bedtime. So keep things traditional in a country bedroom scheme with our Edgeworth range. Choose from chest of drawers and wardrobes in a variety of sizes to suit single, double and master bedrooms. If you have space, put your face on at the elegant dressing table, its simple top includes a vanity mirror and the drawers provide plenty of storage for lotions and potions.
Get the curtains right

When it comes to dressing your windows, the bedroom is one of the most important rooms to get right. Not only should the window treatment look beautiful and complement your scheme, it must also work effectively to keep out light. Whether you opt for shutters, blinds or curtains (or a combination) make sure the lining is thick enough to block any street light or early morning sun.
A calming smell

Avoid artificial scents, such as air fresheners, and replace with essential oils and a diffuser. Soothing lavender oil is thought to help you fall asleep faster and more deeply, while chamomile is known to ease tension. Massage a drop into your temples and feet and take deep inhalations to relax.
More than one light

There’s nothing more frustrating than a bedroom with just one overhead light. Give yourself options by adding a dimmer or opt for several fixtures throughout the room. Create a warm, gentle glow that will help you wind down and prepare the body for deep relaxation.
Artwork you really love

Alongside mood lighting and soft furnishings, artwork is an easy way to add personality and style to a bedroom. There’s no need to go overboard with the artwork, just pick one piece that speaks to you and also makes a statement.
Add a mirror

We think that that mirrors are a pretty magical design element. They make any space feel larger, brighter, and more unique, whether you decide to hang them or simply prop one up against the wall.
Don’t forget some green

As well as looking lovely, keeping a plant on your dressing table will do wonders for the atmosphere in your bedroom. Plants release oxygen and water, which purify the air, and also increases humidity to help you breathe more easily.
