These days, a dining room is never going to just be a dining room - it's likely to be part kitchen, part office, part family room, too. Maybe you're shopping for dining furniture to creating a flexible dining space or redecorating your family dining room. Whatever your aim, at the Wooden Furniture Store we're here to help you plan your new dining room.

Whatever size space you have most of us have room for a dining table. Here are our pick of the bestshapes around.

A classic square oak table.

A square oak table is a beautiful choice and with its simple styling, it’s a good option for all sorts of rooms - we have options that can seat four or six. For a kitchen-diner, what about a table that will complement the glossy finishes and colour schemes of contemporary units? Just as with your kitchen, the light-reflective materials will help keep the space bright.

A round table is a good option in a multi-use room as there aren’t any corners to bump into as you move around the space. Think about this shape if your dining space is small as it’s space-efficient and cosier for guests.

Do you dream of a cosy farmhouse kitchen? A large washed oak version can give you the traditional feel you’re after. And, if you want to make the most of your conservatory, turn the space into a dining room. A light colour table accentuates the natural light. The little touches, like flowers on the table help bring the colours from the outside in.

Now that you’ve chosen the table shape that best suits your space, here are our top tips to creating an individual, interesting room. First, look at the space and clear out all the junk and clutter. Make sure your dining table into the focal point of the room by placing it in the centre of the room perhaps on a rug that contrasts with the flooring.

Use colour to create an effect or highlight a feature. Your room might have a chimney breast or alcoves that could be picked out with a bright colour or print. Not that brave? Then frame an area with a stylish colourful rug or pair of curtains.

Set the mood.

Good lighting is very important. Add mood lighting with table lamps or elaborate candelabra. It’s a good idea if an overhead light is dimmable. Every dining room needs a talking point your guests can look. Don’t hide away matching chinaware; display it in a glass fronted cabinet or in alcoves instead. You may even decide to invest in a wine cabinet. Invest in an unusual picture or print or display family photographs in different sized frames.

Or what about giving your room personality with accessories that complement each other? This could be some ornate candlesticks or colourful Moroccan cushions. But whatever you decide, we have the perfect selection of furniture to make your dining room something really special.
